Hands On Activity
In the past, I developed a hands on activity in which students discovered the Golden Ratio. Students began by measuring the length and width of a rectangle out of the picture below. They then proceeded to find the length and width of an index card, a sheet of paper, and four other rectangles of their choosing around the classroom. Students then have to find the ratio of length to width for each rectangle. Considering percent error, students should find that the average of their ratios is close to 1.61803.
